This document reviews some of the potential issues and concerns that may arise with respect to the cultural dimensions of resource extraction, so as to warn Indigenous communities of potential negative impacts on their cultures. The impacts of development on traditional knowledge and cultural continuity, access to land and natural resources, and diet and nutrition are considered.

Special Rapporteur's Report on the rights of indigenous peoples on her visit to Honduras

The report of the special rapporteur of the United Nations states that the indigenous peoples of Honduras live in a critical situation due to the lack of protection of their rights over their lands, territories, and natural resources and the acts of violence they face for claiming their rights in a general context of violence and impunity and lack of access to justice. This is compounded by inequality, poverty and the lack of adequate basic social services, such as education and health. It concludes with the need to install protective measures, in parallel with the investigation and punishment of those responsible for murders and harassment of indigenous peoples.
